Phoenix Contact Employees Partner with Habitat for Humanity to Build Home for Gulf Coast Hurricane Victims

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. -- Phoenix Contact employees and their families are volunteering their time, skills and hammers this weekend to help a family left in need by last year's Gulf Coast hurricanes.

The company is sponsoring the first "House in a Box" project operated by Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Harrisburg Area. Under the House in a Box program, volunteers completely build the frame of a home locally, and then deliver it to its final destination. Construction began at 8:30 a.m. on Friday and will continue through Sunday afternoon at the company's U.S. headquarters, 586 Fulling Mill Road, Middletown.

More than 55 employees and 20 family members will join Habitat building supervisors to assemble the house. Once the House in a Box is assembled, the frame will be loaded onto a tractor trailer and transported to Thibodaux, La., for completion.

"Phoenix Contact is excited about continuing our support to the many families that were devastated by the Gulf Coast hurricanes last fall," said Jack Nehlig, president of Phoenix Contact. "Our employees contributed over $15,000 in disaster relief funds and ran a clothing drive that produced 31 pallets of pre-sorted clothing. Now Phoenix Contact is providing the funding to build a home in cooperation with Habitat, and our employees are donating their time to partially build it. Once the home is constructed for the family in Thibodaux, we also plan to help them further as we learn more about their specific needs. We all must remember that while the Gulf Coast storms are over, the disaster lives on for hundreds of thousands of families."

Phoenix Contact, with U.S. headquarters in Middletown, is a worldwide leader in the manufacturing of industrial automation, interconnection, and interface solutions.
